San Leandro Historical Photograph and Document CollectionThis collection of about 2,500 photographs and documents ranges from the 1850s to the 1970s. You will find a wide assortment of subjects--agriculture, industry, people, Cherry Festivals, the marina, buildings, and many more.
The photo database belongs to the City of San Leandro and can be searched from the Main Library catalog, but now you can access it from here too. This simple search offers browsing capability and a new and exciting feature that pulls up a Google map location for some photographs. To find out what photos are available for a particular location, click on the blue "Map" link at the bottom of the page. To see the map location of a specific photograph, click on the Photo Identifier number. If a location is available, it will show in a map to the right of the photo information. Publication permission rights should be obtained from the City of San Leandro. Please feel free to contact the Historical Society with questions or if you need assistance with obtaining high resolution photographs or finding a specific subject.
Many thanks to Chris Keith and Jeff Baker for creating this searchable database and Google Maps feature. And thank you to the City of San Leandro for giving the Historical Society permission to provide another access point to this wonderful collection of San Leandro photographs. |
