Black Lives Matter

​We stand in support of the peaceful civil rights protests that have followed the death of George Floyd. Protests across our country and the world send a powerful message that we must root out institutionalized racism and create a more just and equitable America NOW.
 
In 1960, redlining and housing discrimination kept San Leandro 99.3% white. Today, we celebrate a diverse and vibrant community, although we know there is still a long way to go to achieve justice and equal opportunity for everyone. As a historical society, we work to document the past and share the stories of all San Leandro’s people, to inform and create a better future. If you will share a photograph, document, or story—of discrimination, of the city’s transition to a diverse community, of the past, or of San Leandro now—please contact us.
